At The Link we believe in the premise that the power that made the body heals the body. Chiropractic is grounded in this principle. Chiropractic is defined by the ACA as a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. It’s a system of diagnosis and treatment based on the science that the nervous system coordinates all of the body's functions, and that disease results from a lack of normal nerve function. Chiropractors use a manipulative technique to properly align the joints and bones in the body, specifically the spinal column. Subluxation (displacement) of the vertebral body causes impingement of the spinal nerve which elicits pain locally or peripherally along the nerve pattern. By correcting the subluxation (misalignment) pressure on the nerve is relieved. This corrective process is called manipulation or chiropractic adjustment.
Chiropractors use a number of manipulating techniques to adjust individuals of all ages from new born to elderly. The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility and proper function by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile of fixated resultant of a tissue injury. This tissue injury can be caused by a particular incident or progressively develop over time with repetitive stress and improper posture. When tissue is injured the body undergoes physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the suffering individual. By performing an adjustment of the affected joint and tissues mobility is restored, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
